Picking olives

Olijven plukken

It's time to pick the olives in our orchard. Never done it before, but with the help of some locals we got started and it was great. Also very heavy but super fun to do, knocking the olives off the branches with a wooden stick. Then collect and bag them and have them pressed the same day. On the road with 600 kilos of olives to the presser in our nearby village. To think, it was harvested in the afternoon and around 11 p.m. in the evening we drove back to our casa with 90 liters of delicious fresh olive oil. It sounds cliché, but home-grown oil really tastes so much better!

We had not yet picked many trees, but we think that 90 liters will be enough for the first time. We love being able to offer this to our guests and if they want, the oil can also be purchased per liter. A great experience and next year we will go for the entire orchard, we can certainly refuel our energy for this.
